The Return Of The Floydman...or....I'm back....does anybody care?

Music: Jokerman: Bob Dylan
Thoughts: Work, Family, Turkey...and sex?

Well, what can I say....I'm back! I can't believe that I've only posted 4 blogs this year so I'm gonna try and make an early new year's resolution and try to be a bit more disciplined when it comes to posting (yeah, like THAT'S going to happen!).

So what have I been up to...well, so far so good at my new job...everyone seems to like me there and that's always a plus...only thing that's killing me is the schedule...this week in particular, has been work a day, get a day off, work a day, get a day off, work a day, get a day off....and with all my small press and extra curicular activies in the off hours, I'm just a mess mentally.

I've started illustrating a book for the Pharmacy manager at work, it's sort of a compilation of medical hoaxes, cure alls and quack remedies. Good thing about it is I get paid regularly from him per picture, but am wondering what'll happen once it gets published...and he claims to have a publisher, but the publisher and I need to discuss residuals and all that legal junk I hate...so hopefully I'll come out pretty good when all is said and done.

Here's one of the illustrations..originally it's in B&W, but I thought I'd give it a red overlay to dress it up a bit, it revolves around sleep demons and was explained to me in great detail by the author, but of course I only retain important information in my mind such as who sang Steal Away in the 70's (Robbie DuPree anyone?).... Click on the pic to get a better version...

I'm wrapping up Jim Main's latest issue of Make Mine Monsters...a book that SHOULD have been done a couple months ago, but time and life kinda got in my way....sorry Jim...I've been pretty stressed lately. The mag should be out soon and I'll give everyone the ordering info once it's ready to go. Next up is a fantasy comic FANTASCAPE and putting things together for COMIC FAN #1 and Jim's other comic SATYR #7. On top of that the new issue of my own reviewzine Ka-Whump! is in progress and it looks as if I'll be using some of my illustration money to print POD after the first of the year...how soon after the first, I cannot say...busy busy busy....

Almost separated from my wife of a year and a half....we've been having some problems and a BIG part of it is my love for small press and the lack of time I spend with the family...came real close to walking out, but if I did, then I'd be lost, she would be lost and the kids would be shattered...so we thought it best to try and work things out...so far, so good, I'm trying to be more of a family man lately because that should take precedence over everything else...unfortunately, I'm also the first to admit that I'm a selfish egomaniac at times and my mind gets the best of me if I'm not careful. Had our Thanksgiving dinner today instead of on Thanksgiving 'cause I had to work, and it was a good day for the most part...relaxed, played with the boys and ate WAY too much.....sometime Life is just TOO good!
Here's a shot of the bird..doesn't that just make your mouth water..... MMmmmmmmm....

Also had a great sunset to end the day....here's a shot out my balcony...can't beat the view. I rearranged the living room the other day when i was feeling domesticated, but gotta start saving up for a new couch...really sucks to be living in poverty, but that which you don't have only makes your drive and appreciation that much stronger....

oh...and comics? Well, all I've been reading lately is small press books I picked up at Stumptown for my Ka-Whump reviews...but I DID get something offa Indy Planet...Rockabilly Roadtrip...a fun comic with lots of attitude....kinda disappointed a bit, but still a fun read. Gotta find time to get away and see Tenacious D in The Pick Of Destiny....I'm glad Jack Black didn't forget about Kyle after he starred in King Kong and is going back to his roots...gotta get the soundtrack too...if you haven't heard the first Tenacious D CD, I suggest you run out and grab a copy FAST!
That's it for now...back to work first thing in the morning then back at the keys for more catching up.

Keep Creatin'
